Our hands reveal a universal truth and existential absolute. They can be dry, calloused, splintered, chewed, and tender. They also feed us, fuel us, and allow us to banish the fear of that absolute through creating, caressing, consuming, and playing. Join Thomas Martinez Pilnik and Lauren Powell Projects in a clay and yarn-filled session where we will collaborate on a communal rug and construct ceramic avatars of our own hands.

During this workshop you will hear about Pilnik's practice, get your hands dirty playing with clay while learning some hand-building basics, and create a free-standing hand-built terracotta sculpture of your hands (however you interpret it), which he will then glaze and fire for you to pick up once ready.

If that wasn’t enough, you will each be given a 10–15-minute individual session to play with Pilnik's tufting gun and learn the basics of machine-rug-tufting. It’s sure to be an arts (and craft) bonanza!
