Lauren Powell Projects is thrilled to begin a new iteration of LPP Sunset Hiking Club - this time with musician Sebastian Lee and his cello. This vertical climb will rely on the strength and assistance of the community, working together towards a shared musical moment, and will take place on Sunday, November 16th, beginning at 3PM.
Participants will meet at the bear statue at the entrance of Griffith Park where Fern Dell Drive and Los Feliz Boulevard intersect - please park and gather here by 3:00pm. We will begin our ascent promptly at 3:15PM, towards the summit - the Berlin Forest just north of Griffith Observatory. Along the hike participants will take turns carrying Lee’s cello and performance chair, culminating in a collaborative interpretation of well known works by Bach and Britten on top of the mountain as the sun sets at 4:48pm. Upon completion, we will retrace our steps and descend the mountain together, reflecting on all we saw and heard, reaching the parking area and dispersing by 6PM. The hike will be 3ish miles in total.
This Sunset Hiking Club featuring Sebastian Lee will blend physical engagement and communal effort, allowing participants to experience music resonating in the open air, framed by the landscape and fading light. Together, we will focus on shared labor and the collective results, mindful movement, and the quiet, reflective connection between nature, music, and community - for working together towards positive change and resistance continues to be more important than ever.
For those who are not able to join in the trek up the mountain, please join us in the Berlin Forest via Observatory Parking Lot where parking is readily available at 4:15 PM. Parking in this lot is first come first served and $10/hour.
While this event is offered freely to the public, we would like to remind you of the evergrowing challenges of operating as an artist/musician, and encourage you to make a donation towards Sebastian Lee’s efforts and shared gifts. Donations can be sent via Venmo or Eventbrite through the Partiful registration link HERE. <3
